Midwest Credit Union in an announcement on their website Friday announced the closing of both it's local Tucson branches.

The statement and frequently asked question document cites the downturn in the economy as a reason they have to consolidate operations to remain viable.

Existing customers accounts will remain open and a part of Meriwest Credit Union, customers can access funds via the Internet, ATM's, and via approved partners of Meriwest bank's branches.
