Investigators with the Benson Police Department are investigating a serious accident involving a pedestrian and a train.

The crash occured just after 4p.m. local time,  a spokesman with the Benson Fire Department confirmed the crash but did not have further details on the condition of the victim.

Tom Lange with the Union Pacific Railroad says that the victim is an adult male who was trespassing between crossings, he was struck by a train and his condition was not known at this time.

Lange added that vehicles and pedestrians should only cross at marked crossings, and to use caution when crossing due to the time it can take a fully loaded train to come to a stop.

Local residents called into the KGUN9 newsroom telling us that all three railroad crossing in the city limits are blocked by the stopped train.

Officials with the railroad added that the train in the accident was a fully loaded coal train traveling eastbound through Benson.
