The Arizona Department of Public Safety is investigating a fatal collision at the Burnt Wells Rest Stop west of Phoenix.
A spokesman with DPS says the driver of the semi-truck was pronounced deceased on scene as a result of the vehicle crashing into a residence at the rest stop
On Wednesday, November 18, at about 12:15p.m., a semi-truck owned by May Trucking was traveling westbound on Interstate 10 at milepost 86 (70 miles west of Phoenix) when, for an unknown reason, the truck entered the median and proceeded to cross the eastbound lanes of the interstate.
After crossing the eastbound lanes of Interstate 10, the truck struck a residence at the Burnt Wells Rest stop that houses the rest stop’s caretakers.
Two residents of the house were in the backyard at the time of the incident.
They were flown by helicopter to a Phoenix area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the commercial vehicle was deceased on scene.
Eastbound and westbound traffic on Interstate 10 was never affected by the collision.
The Burnt Wells rest area remains closed at this time.
