Tucson, AZ (KGUN) - Tonight we're learning more about one of the victims killed in Thursday's massacre. Fort hood officials confirmed today that Major L. Eduardo Caraveo was among the 13 people shot to death.

Caraveo was a Major in the army almost 10 years and was preparing for deployment in Afghanistan. He was at Fort Hood just 24 hours before the shooting.

In a quiet gated community in northwest Tucson.

"It's horrible, it's heartbreaking," said Jennifer Moulton.

Neighbors and friends are remembering the 52 year old psychologist.

"It's terrible to hear of anyone passing away. It's even more horrible when it's someone you know," added Moulton.

"He was a super good neighbor. If we needed anything he'd help you and he had just a real good heart," said neighbor Debbie Keller.

Caraveo who worked as a clinical psychologist for 20 years had arrived in the U.S. from Mexico, put himself through school and eventually earned a Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Arizona.

He'd been in the National Guard for 10 years and was preparing for his first deployment into a combat zone as part of a support unit that helped soldiers deal with the stresses of war.

He arrived at Fort Hood Wednesday to finish up paperwork before heading off to Afghanistan. Just one day later a gunman opened fire on the Soldier Readiness Center killing 13 people and injuring 48 more.

"This morning I just broke into tears. My baby was sleeping and I was like oh my gosh," said Moulton.

Tonight as investigators work to determine a motive, neighbors and friends on Robert Daru Drive are now praying for Eduardo Caraveo and his family both here in the Old Pueblo and in Woodbridge, Virginia.

"My heart goes out to them. He was a very nice person and he'll be missed," said Keller.

Caraveo is survived by his ex-wife and two children in Tucson as well as his current family in Virginia.
