Medical helicopter crashes on San Carlos Reservation

A Native Air Ambulance medical helicopter made a hard landing at an airport on the San Carlos Indian Reservation tonight around 7:30p.m.

Investigators confirmed early Thursday morning that the helicopter was on a training flight that originated from Mesa Arizona's Williams Gateway Airport.

Two crew members have been transported from the scene to a Phoenix area medical center with serious injuries, both are expected to survive.

The airport, located across the street from the Apache Gold Casino is located 5-7 east of Globe Arizona.

Investigators from the San Carlos Police Department and the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs are on the scene, FAA investigators are expected before the end of the week.

Native Air is a Mesa Arizona division of Omniflight Helicopters Inc. of Addison Texas, they have 16 bases in the state and have been providing services for over 12 years according to the company website.
