Convicted DC sniper John Allen Muhammad will die by lethal injection.

He is scheduled to be executed November 10th for one of a string of shootings in 2002 that left ten people dead.

Muhammad's teenage co-defendant, Lee Boyd Malvo, is serving a life sentence.

Tucson has a connection to the DC sniper attacks.

Months before they terrorized DC, Maryland and Virginia, the two snipers killed a man here.

Now the victim's daughter will be a witness at John Muhammad's execution.

KGUN 9 On Your Side's Craig Smith talked with her today.

Half a year before snipers terrorized the DC, Maryland and Virginia, someone shot and killed Jerry Taylor at Tucson's Fred Enke golf course.

After capital area police arrested John Muhammad and Lee Boyd Malvo, Malvo told investigators the pair had killed a man on a tucson golf course.

Cheryll Witz wrote Malvo urging him to confess.  Four years after the shooting he called her---and did.

"That was really all the closure I needed.  That was a confession and I believe, that was exactly what I needed for my closure.  This is justice."

The justice for her is John Muhammad's execution...which she's scheduled to see in a Virginia prison November 10th.

"To tell you the truth, I've never been for the death penalty. I didn't believe an eye for an eye but this is my father."

Only Muhammad is scheduled to die. Witz thinks Malvo's life sentence is the right punishment for him. She believes John Muhammad molded Malvo from an abandoned child to a murderer and remembers what Malvo said to her.

"His exact words were: "he loved me, he fed me, he clothed me and he turned me into a monster."

And once John Muhammad is gone there will still be the memories of the man who took--the kind, gentle man with the smile that never seemed to fade.

"He was just a wonderful man.  He always had the grin on his face like you see in that picture right there.  That was my dad."

There's the potential for delay in the execution. There is an appeal underway based on the claim Muhammad is mentally ill and should not be executed for that reason---and sometimes those court orders come down moments before an execution is supposed to happen.

Cheryll Witz is grateful for how the organization Homicide Survivors helped her cope with everything that's happened and how they helped arrange for her to witness the execution.
