Phoenix man arrested, suspected in 8 bank heists

Associated Press - October 26, 2009 8:14 PM ET

PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities say they have arrested a Phoenix man in connection with a string of bank robberies around Arizona.

FBI agents and Scottsdale police took 26-year-old Michael Yanni into custody without incident Monday at his Phoenix home after receiving a tip on his whereabouts.

Authorities say Yanni is suspected of robbing eight banks in Scottsdale, Phoenix, Carefree and Marana between June 13, 2006, and June 29, 2007.

Investigators say they spoke with victim tellers and witnesses and showed them lineups to see if they could identify Yanni as the bank robber.

They say the robber typically wore a bandanna and mirrored aviator sunglasses.
