More furloughs planned next month in Bullhead City

Associated Press - October 23, 2009 12:54 PM ET

BULLHEAD CITY, Ariz. (AP) - Bullhead City employees get two more unpaid days off next month. So far, city workers have been off three days without pay. The policy was put in place to save approximately $660,000 this fiscal year, which began July 1.

Bullhead City spokesman Steve Johnson said there are approximately 300 hourly and 80 salaried city employees.

The November furlough days will be Veterans Day, Nov. 11, and the day after Thanksgiving, Nov. 27.

Johnson said if it's deemed necessary to extend the furlough policy into the 2010-2011 fiscal year, the city council will need to vote on the matter.

There's also a provision that if there are six consecutive months of revenue increases, the furlough policy would be dropped.
