SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. (AP) - The new mayor of Naco, Mexico, is inviting Americans to visit the border town southeast of Sierra Vista.
Mayor Manuel Madrid is assuring members of the public that his community is safe.
Madrid said he has a full slate of projects planned including constructing a new building for the police, Red Cross, fire department and civil protection and creating a sports area for soccer, baseball and tennis.
Madrid, a member of the National Action Party (PAN), narrowly defeated Oscar Ozuna of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI). A recount in July showed Madrid winning by two votes.
Madrid officially took office Sept. 16 for a 3-year term.
