Fewer boats and people in Lake Havasu over holiday

Associated Press - September 8, 2009 12:34 PM ET

LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. (AP) - Fewer people apparently visited Lake Havasu and Parker over the Labor Day weekend.

Lake Havasu State Park's Windsor boat launch ramp and the lake's marina reported a decrease in the number of boaters using Lake Havasu after parking was unusually available Saturday and at capacity for only a few hours Sunday.

The Parker area also reported a relatively quiet Labor Day holiday.

The La Paz County Sheriff's Office reported no major incidents or injuries and the crowds were generally well behaved.

La Paz County Sheriff's Office spokesman Lt. Linc Gilbert said it wasn't clear why the crowds this year were smaller, though he said the bad economy, weather and possibly the fires in Southern California may have been a factor.
