Arizona AG: Quartzsite Town Council violated open meetings laws
Web Producer: Brian Pryor
PHOENIX (KGUN9-TV) - Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne released a brief statement on Friday concerning allegations of open meetings law violations in Quartzsite, Arizona.
Horne said that based on a review of a video on the July 10th 2010 meeting his office "has reasonable cause to believe there has been a violation of the Open Meeting Law, inasmuch as the public was excluded."
The statement goes on to say that the meeting was held under the misconception that an emergency meeting can be conducted without the public present.
Friday's statement does not go into the question of whether the Town Council's declaration of an emergency was legitimate.
The investigation of this meeting and other allegations of open meeting law violations in Quartzsite are still ongoing.
