TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Tucson Sector Border Patrol agents rescued 26 illegal immigrants found wandering in the Arizona desert over the Fourth of July weekend where temperatures were 118 degrees.
Authorities suspect the immigrants were traveling with smugglers. They were found in very rugged and remote terrain. Some of the immigrants had to be hospitalized, while others only needed
some rest and water.
Agents found 12 people in separate rescues Saturday near Casa Grande and Douglas. Agents patrolling near Ajo found four people Friday and another 14 people Sunday.
After they were treated the immigrants were processed for the return home.
